Europe - Carrie - Meaning of the song
"Carrie" is a power ballad by the Swedish rock band Europe released in 1987. It was the third single released internationally from the album The Final Countdown, and it is their highest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart peaking at #3 (#1 on the Radio and Records chart) during the fall of 1987.
This power ballad was written in 1985 by Europe vocalist Joey Tempest and keyboardist Mic Michaeli. In the same year, the band performed an early version with only keyboards and vocals on a tour in Sweden, however the final version has the entire band performing.
lead singer Joey Tempest mentions there wasn't a real Carrie. "We were young then, the normal breaking up and finding a new girlfriend," he said in describing the inspiration. "It was more of a general thing, actually."
Carrie - Lyrics
When lights go down, I see no reason For you to cry. We've been through this before In every time, in every season God knows I've tried So please don't ask for more Can't you see it in my eyes That this might be our last goodbye Carrie, Carrie, things they change my friend Carrie, Carrie, maybe we'll meet again Somewhere again I read your mind, with no intentions Of being unkind, I wish I could explain It all takes time, whole lot of patience If it's a crime, how come I feel no pain Can't you see it in my eyes That this might be our last goodbye Carrie, Carrie, oh things they change my friend Carrie, Carrie, maybe we'll meet again Can't you see it in my eyes That this might be our last goodbye Carrie, Carrie, oh things they change Carrie Carrie Carrie Carrie, Carrie, maybe we'll meet again Oh somewhere, again When lights go down
